Levon Helm

 Two of the finest artists in folk, rock, and country sounds are coming together to concert. Levon Helm, drummer and lead singer of The Band, has been performing since the late fifties, serving as back-up for Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, then touring and performing with The Band. John Hiatt hasn't been around quite that long, but it sounds like he has. His great body of songs has been covered by everyone from Three Dog Night to Bonnie Raitt.  Levon Helm's craggy southern-tinged vocals became known for singing such songs as "The Weight," "Up on Cripple Creek," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." Since The Band broke up after The Last Waltz in 1976, Helm as continued recording as well as doing great acting in movies like A Coal Miner's Daughter and The Right Stuff. In the past few years, he's hosted The Midnight Ramble at his home/studio in Woodstock, New York, a group of informal concerts with some of the best musicians in the business.

John Hiatt broke into the spotlight with the album, Bring the Family, but he'd been around for years, having written "Sure as I'm Sitting Here" for Three Dog Night and "Thing Called Love" for Bonnie Raitt. On his own, he's had hits with "Memphis in the Meantime," "Have a Little Faith In Me," and "Slow Turning". He recorded as part of Little Village, a supergroup featuring Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. He now tours with The Combo.
