The Florida Marlins are a Major League baseball team who play in Miami, Florida.  They are part of the National League and have been so since 1993, when they entered the league as an expansion team. The team has experienced highs and lows since that time, with their greatest successes coming in 1997 and 2003, when they won the World Series, the ultimate pinnacle for a major league team.

The team has had several notable players in its young existence, including Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, the team's catcher in the 1997 championship year, Pitcher Dontrelle Willis, and first baseman Miguel Cabrera. The Florida Marlins currently play their games at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.  It is a great facility that is also home to the Miami Dolphins football team of the National Football League, as well as the University of Miami Hurricanes football team, who are a perennial national powerhouse.  In 2009, construction began on a new facility to house the Florida Marlins, which is being paid for by the City of Miami and taxpayers in that area.  When the ballpark opens in 2012, the team will then be known as the Miami Marlins.
