Shell Houston Open

 There are so many professional golf tournaments these days that it is difficult to keep them all straight.  Although there are certain ones that everyone is familiar with, like the Masters, most people aren't aware of the history and legacies of some of the less well known events.  One such event is the Shell Houston Open, which is run by the Professional Golfing Association, or PGA.

 The Shell Houston Open does not take place in the city of Houston, but rather in a nearby town called Humble, Texas.  Although the name of the town is Humble, that could also be a descriptor for how golfers feel after playing in this event.  The course that it is played on, at a place called the Redstone Golf Club, is a tough one and the victor must work hard to win the prize available.  And there are great prizes too.  In fact, the winner of the event takes home just over $1 million.  All told, the prize purse for the Shell Houston Open is $5.8 million.

Although this event is not too well known, it is by no means a new event.  In fact, this event first began back in 1947.  At that point in time it was in Houston.  The event moved from venue to venue throughout the Houston area before eventually settling in Humble in 2003.  It looks like the event will be staying there for awhile, given that the event has already been there for several years.
