Tampa Bay Rays

Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton, and the rest of the Tampa Bay Rays had a great 2008 season. It was the first and only time in the MLB team's history that they made the post-season and got close to a World Series ring but lost to the unstoppable Philadelphia Phillies. Unfortunately, they couldn't duplicate their success but still managed to be third in the very tough National League division. Could another name change help this team get over the hump like it apparently did in 2008? Nah! The Rays are happy with the direction they're going but they wouldn't mind another playoff berth. Catch all the Rays' action from spring training to the post-season (hopefully)!

While most of the country still thinks that the professional baseball team out of Tampa Bay is called the Devil Rays, the team actually formally changed their name to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2007.  That was one of many changes that the new owner made when he took over the team that year.  The team's colors were also changed to navy blue and gold.  This was a brighter change from their previous colors that included black.  The team's logo is also no longer a manta ray.  Instead it is a ray of sunshine which the owner hopes with radiate all through Florida.

It may be just a coincidence, but the team has played far better than it had been once these changes were made.  Although they had only been in the league since 1998, their first winning season was 2008, the year after the change in ownership.  That year was also the debut of the Rays star third baseman Evan Longoria.  He won the American League Rookie of the Year trophy that year.  His play catapulted the team to great successes which included a trip to the playoffs and winning the American League pennant.

The Rays play their home games at beautiful Tropicana Field.  It is fitting that a team from Florida would be named after the top orange juice company in America.  The field is a great baseball stadium, both from the perspective of the fans and the players.  Fans love seeing their team play there and the stadium is often alive with energy.

If you want to see Evan Longoria and other great Rays, like Carlos Pena, play in person, you should get tickets to see them either at Tropicana Field or at another stadium that may be closer to you.  Tickets to all Major League Baseball games are available here on ConcertKing.
